The emphasis of the rally is
on charity. The last stages of the rally will be in Mali,
which is the fifth poorest country in the world. And to know
that most of daily goods that are obvious to us are a luxury
in that part of the world, it makes us even more committed
to repay them for their friendliness.

That is the reason why rally organisers
are encouraging the teams to collect children's clothing, school necessities,
toys, medicines and everything else that can be of help and use to the
people of Mali. The organiser is also collecting money and each year they
build a well with drinking water in remote villages. In 2008 alone, rally
organiser and participants raised 500.000 Euros in money and other means.
In addition to this, each teams is required to "adopt" a
village or a local school. That means that they deliver small, but precious
gifts to children (clothing, toys etc). |
