Robert Slavec - DRIVER / MECHANIC
I was born in 1970 and I passed my driving test when I was
19, because I wanted to be a driver whilst serving in the
army. And as it usually happens, my wish did not come true
and I was walking, rather than driving. Only few people,
however, can say that they drove me, as I am usually the
one in the driving seat. And, if my jobs until now are anything
to judge by, then I am a professional driver. I truly enjoy
driving and even long distances and demanding routes cannot
put me off. I believe I have driven over 1 million km in
my life. And I still enjoy it.
I have been following DAKAR rally since 1981 and always
wanted to take part, but I also found out it costs a fortune
to take part. The first time I learned about Budapest-Bamako
rally was in 2007 when I saw it on Travel Channel. I could
not believe that there was this African race in which everyone
can participate. Some media named it "Dakar for the
poor", but I do not see it that way and I am just glad
anyone can take part. When I saw the happiness of children
in Mali when the participants brought them gifts, I decided
there and then that I would take part in the rally. In December
2007 I convinced my wife to come along and we sent an application
as the first Slovenian Racing Team for Budapest Bamako rally.
Since then, we spend most of our spare time planning this.
I promise to keep you posted on all important events on our
webpage.

Tea Slavec - CO-DRIVER / NAVIGATOR
It took me slightly longer than my husband to make a decision
to take part in this. After long consideration I decided
that I want to participate and help him achieve the goal.
I also want to experience the adventure and most importantly,
help the children in the poorest part of the world.
